ARCHITECTURAL JOB CAPTAIN

Our affiliated multi-disciplinary design studio, Think Fabricate, provides expertise in design of furniture, lighting, and other products.

The job captain is ideally an “architect’s architect,” a role model within the office who is committed to design excellence; technical and design awareness; open communication; sharing of knowledge, strategy and insights. The Job Captain reports to the Project Executive or Principal-in-charge, leads teammates to a shared project goal, and is primarily responsible for design development, contract documents, and project administration.  The role varies depending on the type, size, and phase of the project.

Your responsibilities will generally include the following:

Lead an internal team of architects and designers to deliver the project in accordance with the client’s needs, the project understanding, and a cultivated design aesthetic.  For smaller projects, may work independently with full responsibility of fulfilling project requirements.

Support and facilitate constructive communication between project team, clients, vendors, contractors, consultants, and building and permitting officials.  Provide regular updates to firm leadership on project status. Contribute effectively to collaborative spirit within the office.

Provide technical and design input throughout the project process. Lead project team to develop design, create construction documents, including project manual and specifications.

Conduct and document site visits, process submittals, substitution requests, and RFI’s during construction, and/or coordinate and manage others in performing these tasks.

Manage project progress, both internally, with client, and with consultants and municipal officials.

Ideal qualifications for this position include:

Bachelor or Masters degree in Architecture

5+ years of experience in architectural firm working on educational, multi-family residential, or historic preservation projects

Licensed Architect

Advanced knowledge of current versions of REVIT, Autocad, and MS-Office

Working knowledge of building codes, standards, and construction

Construction administration and field observation experience desirable

LEED accreditation desirable

Although the job most often requires working at a desk in the office, the job may require field visits to project sites and some travel, typically within the New York City area.
