A series of repairs was targeted to restore and modernize the exterior envelope of this 33,000 SF brick and limestone building designed in 1899 by renowned school architect C.B. J. Snyder. An on-going water infiltration problem at the imposing Fourth Avenue entrance balcony was addressed through installation of a new water-proofing membrane and scupper system, along with traditional masonry repair. Water infiltration at the main parapet was addressed by removing a four-foot continuous strip of roofing at the entire building perimeter and providing new flashing and masonry where necessary. This targeted approach addressed the critical issues without disturbing the entire roof or facade and helped contain cost.
