PS 32K Library — NYC School Construction AuthorityBrooklyn, NY
The school project design responded to the school’s vision: transforming its existing library into a space reminiscent of a European train station. A custom-designed ceiling mural was applied between existing structural beams to create a trompe l’oeuil effect, similar to the arching, vaulted skylights of a London train station you might find in a Harry Potter novel. Custom wall sconces recall the mood of traditional lighting but with a contemporary twist. Dark mesh blinds, custom rugs, and dark woods provide a cozy atmosphere to set off the “flea-market find” furniture that had been gathered by the librarian over time and is now used alongside contemporary furnishings.
