PS 8R — NYC School Construction Authority

Staten Island, NY

The brick and terracotta facade restoration in conjunction with a complete window replacement has aided in returning this historic collegiate gothic school building, designed by C.B.J. Snyder, to its former glory. The project, completed in 2009, involved removal and replacement of all existing windows, repair and fabrication of new terracotta pieces at the elaborate parapet of the original portion of the building which was constructed in 1915, along with face brick replacement and repointing throughout the subsequent additions which were constructed in 1937 & 1951. All work was designed to comply with the requirements of the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO), given that the building is eligible for historic status in New York State. Doban Architecture also completed conversion of a classroom into a library in 2008.
